Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus yesterday urged members of the Special Security Force (SSF) to maintain utmost professionalism, setting aside political ideologies while discharging their duties.
"In providing security to state-designated VIPs, it’s crucial to prioritize strength of character, discipline, honesty, responsibility, and human values alongside professional skills," he told SSF personnel during an event marking the force’s 39th founding anniversary at the Chief Adviser’s Office.
Prof Yunus instructed the SSF to minimize public inconvenience while enforcing security measures. Citing an example, he noted that the long-standing practice of suspending all flights at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for around an hour during VIP movements had caused significant difficulties for passengers. This restriction was lifted during his tenure to ease public suffering.
"I believe the SSF will continue to perform their responsibilities effectively by staying connected with the public, ensuring a balance between public relations and security," the Chief Adviser added.
Reflecting on the SSF’s coordination during his overseas state visits, Prof Yunus praised the force’s collaboration with embassies and security agencies of host nations, contributing to the success of those trips.
Addressing the evolving nature of global security challenges in an era of rapid technological advancements and information exchange, he acknowledged that ensuring absolute security remains difficult. However, he expressed confidence in the SSF’s ability to meet these challenges.
"Despite various limitations, the SSF is delivering its responsibilities commendably. I hope the force will continue to reassess emerging threats and adopt necessary countermeasures," he remarked.
Prof Yunus emphasized the need for continuous improvement through advanced training, technology integration, and enhanced morale. He also thanked the Bangladesh Army for providing training support to the SSF.
Maj Gen Mahbubus Samad Chowdhury, Director of SSF, also addressed the event. Among others present were Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, chiefs of the three services, the Chief Adviser’s Principal Secretary, the Principal Coordinator on SDG Affairs, the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, the Inspector General of Police, and other senior government officials.
